In the pursuit of showcasing innovative solutions to enhance cancer diagnosis and treatment, Cambridge Raman Imaging (CRI), the coordinator of the CHARM project, took the stage and showcased their new products and the CHARM project at this year’s SPIE Photonics West BiOS—one of the largest gatherings in biomedical optics and photonics.
The conference, held in San Francisco, USA, hosted industry experts, potential users, and partners whose attention was grabbed by CRI’s feature-packed stand. At the stand, CRI’s CEO, Matteo Negro, along with Francesco Crisafi, R&D Manager, and Benedetta Talone, System Engineer, introduced two pivotal products: STRALE, a revolutionary Raman laser, and CHAMP, an advanced optical spectrometer.
Together, these two devices should provide a comprehensive platform that easily integrates into existing microscopy structures, streamlining data scale-up and transfer processes. “The synergistic design between laser source and detection system simplifies implementation for real-time full-chemical imaging,” explained Francesco. The team also introduced the CHARM project to several curious visitors, highlighting its features and goal of bringing Raman digital imaging to a clinical setting for faster and label-free cancer diagnosis.
Besides the promising products, the team also discussed recent findings at the BiOS 2024 – Advanced Chemical Microscopy for Life Science and Translational Medicine conference. These findings, presented at two talks by Matteo and Francesco, explored how CRI’s technology addresses the current limitations of label-free histological tissue analysis using Raman imaging, offering detailed and chemically-specific insights.
“Integrating AI-driven virtual staining and tissue segmentation could push stimulated Raman histology closer to practical clinical diagnostics,” said Matteo.
Collaborating with CRI on their presentation was the CHARM project partner IN society. They supported CRI’s exhibition with visual materials, including informative leaflets. These materials showcased CRI’s breakthrough products and highlighted CHARM’s key features and goals to a broad and diverse audience.
The event marked a significant milestone for CHARM and Cambridge Raman Imaging as they engaged potential customers and partners, fostering collaborations with the potential to shape the future of biomedical optics. Their cutting-edge technologies and commitment to advancing Raman imaging technology are poised to make a lasting impact in cancer research and diagnostics.
